Phoenix P-12 Community College
STAGE 1
Location: Wadawurrung Country | Sebastapol, Victoria Sector: Education
Y2 Architecture was appointed as the Principal Consultant to spearhead the Master Plan development for a comprehensive community health and learning precinct on the former sites of Sebastopol College and Redan Primary School.
This ambitious project sought to reimagine the sites as vibrant hubs of health, education, and community engagement, necessitating close collaboration with stakeholders and community representatives.
A Community Reference Team (CRT) was assembled to provide invaluable input and guidance throughout the planning process. Comprising representatives from the City of Ballarat Health Services, Department of Human Services, Child and Family Services, and the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, the CRT played a pivotal role in shaping the requirements and vision for both sites.
The master plan delineates a multifaceted approach to community well-being and learning. On the smaller site, proposals include a maternal and child health facility integrated with long and occasional daycare services, kindergarten programs, and educational services up to Year 4, alongside various other community amenities. Meanwhile, the larger site is envisioned to house a comprehensive suite of facilities, including a community health centre, parenting centre, auditorium, technical trade training facility, dental training centre, and an educational facility spanning Year 5 to Year 12, complemented by sporting and community assembly hubs.
The project’s response to the public realm is evident in its inclusive planning, which incorporates essential public facilities such as dental and maternal health services, childcare, and educational resources. By integrating these services into the precinct, the project not only addresses community needs but also fosters a sense of cohesion and accessibility. The community health and learning precinct is transformative asset for the entire region, promoting holistic well-being and lifelong learning opportunities for generations to come.
